Thermopolium – The Roman Snack Bar
Even two thousand years ago, lunch breaks had to be quick. That's why these types of restaurants offered dishes such as pea and lentil porridge, which were kept warm in large sunken pots.
I've been wanting to think about models of Roman antiquity for a while now and a small restaurant like this is a great place to start :-) At the same time, I've been thinking about what I want from a small extra set like a GoP: it should work on its own (decorative or playable) and/or contain additions such as accessories or decorative elements. And perhaps serve a theme that is not yet so widely represented.
In addition to the two minifigures and the dog, the Thermopolium includes four barrels built into the counter for food and drinks, a small oven and other kitchen utensils. And even though I wasn't able to create frescoes as elaborate as those in the real-life versions, I at least tried to decorate the snack bar with a few pretty patterns ;-)
