Blackiston's Fish Owl

Blakiston's fish owl (Bubo blakistoni) is the largest living species of owl. It is endangered and native to China, Japan, and Far Eastern Russia. It's about 2 1/2 feet (70 cm) tall with a wingspan of about 6 feet (190 cm). It lives in dense, old-growth forests near waterways or coastlines and eats various aquatic prey, including salmon, as shown in this set. A gear on the back of the model turns the head 360°, and pushing the block on the end of the rear axle opens a hidden compartment on the front torso, revealing the contents of the owl's stomach, a deconstructed salmon (which can be reconstructed with a hinged jaw), referring back to my awe at dissecting owl pellets in high school biology class. The entire model contains 250 pieces. I hope you enjoy this build! It was really fun to create. Please leave a comment with your thoughts. Thank you!
