Desktop Telescope
The technology that allows us to navigate and see the stars has evolved over the ages. My entry is a desktop nautical telescope, a tool similar in appearance to a sextant. It swings back and forth in a 60 degree arc just like a sextant (however the sextant's range is actually calculated at 120 degrees because of the doubling factor the mirrors introduce). The telescope also rotates in a circular fashion.
This build is made up of 236 pieces, all currently available with the exception of 2 recommended re-colors. I don't know if that is common in GWPs but the color scheme of the telescope could easily be changed to white/black/light gray. It uses minimal technic pieces, they account for 5% of the build (6 pins, 2 axles, 4 technic bricks). The curved stand is made from hinge bricks with a locking mechanism to hold it steady.
Here is a short video demonstrating the motion.
