Summer Garden
When I was in my younger years, I used to stay with my
grandparents for a couple of weeks during the school summer holidays. I have
fond memories of playing in the large garden, where I spent a lot of time
because back home I lived in a flat so outside space was limited. We’d usually travel down by train and couldn’t take many toys,
therefore I’d have to create my own fun!
My Grandad had a vegetable patch and a greenhouse. I
remember the greenhouse was really warm and I still love the smell of tomato
vines to this day.
I’d roam around the garden picking leaves from various trees, put them in a bowl and mash them up. No idea what I was trying to
make!
We would fill the paddling pool and I’d spend hours splashing about and running around. I
remember towards the end of the day it would have lots of blades of grass in
it.
I'd make little
obstacle courses with egg boxes, garden canes and whatever else I could find. I'd throw balls into the pool, trying to splash my Nana.
