Star Surfer
Two Extreme Environments: One Room
Ocean and Outer Space combine in a room created for a surfer-turned-astronaut, who is on a mission in deep space. Favourite parts of the beach were abducted for this sea-space fusion. A Wave Couch, sitting on a sandy beach, provides a place to recline and remember the sounds of waves. There are decorative stars on the wall and one special shooting star created using a starfish. Moving across the room, the wooden boardwalk transitions into the metal walkway similar to the ramp astronauts climb to board their ships. Beside the door, is a vase created from a reclaimed cone of a small rocket. Coloured coral grows along the base, and green seaweed flows out the top. An image of a large wave crests over the window, creating the illusion of water flowing across the room. A wall decoration of a planet is created from a lifesaver ring. A large telescope is placed by the window for actual stargazing. A surfboard hangs on the wall, waiting to be used again.
