Sailing Ships

I wanted something to pop-up out of the 2-studs scene. Same hinge just on opposide side unfolds beams almost 90º to the main scene, naturally lent itself to masts with sail booms...

Decorating this was a family project.  Cover design is mostly by my 6yo son Ofek.  I had to replace his chosen title "The Ship of Surprises" as that used custom letter stickers.

The left ship has stud cannons on the inner side—as the book is closing, the ships are rotating side-to-side to allow cannon combat, with the admiral looking to the other ship.

The small ship's sail unfolds semi-manually, but at most angles it does fold automatically, by gravity! As the main mechanism lays down, the weight of the sail pulls it to the correct side, while central ships' booms slide up a bit against the book's inner surface.
The "flag" on the small ship's mast, as well as 1x1 piece meeting the slope on its back, constrain the sail's angle

Added a whale, sunset, island with pirate and iceberg.
