Once Upon a— DRAGON!!!

What fairytale character is more classic than the evil dragon that must be defeated by the heroic knight in shining armor?  This dragon could be a part of any number of stories.

The day this contest was announced, I had the idea of building an enormous pop up dragon.  I didn't know if it was even possible or if I was capable of making it, but I wanted to try.  After weeks of building, I settled on this design The dragon fits inside the book, which is completely unmodified, and only uses the original attachment points from the set.  The mechanism uses five Lego strings and a rubber band (also Lego) to unfold from within the book. It took a lot of trial and error to make this model sturdy enough to function properly, but now it works almost every time.

To give an idea of scale, the dragon's wingspan is about the width of the book and its height is almost the length of the long edge of the book.
