Voice controlled LEGO bricks color recognition mobile phone app for blind / visually impaired people
LEGO is planning to launch Braille Bricks in 2020 for blind and partially sighted children which should help them learning. What about adults? It could be amazing what the blind / visually impaired people could built - they might have completely different perception of shapes and colors - we would be just amazed! ...and inspired and motivated to build more by ourselves or to build together (fun and inclusion).
That's why I'm introducing the voice controlled LEGO bricks color recognition mobile phone app for blind / visually impaired people which will listen and reply back. Each LEGO brick will be having a chip inside its plastic body and this chip will have a unique number. To each of the chip numbers a specific color of particular LEGO brick will be assigned in a database saved in a mobile phone app. While building and playing with LEGO bricks there is always a mobile phone nearby where the LEGO app will be running and it will be activated based on the word "color" so the special LEGO brick with a chip can be placed within its reach. Then it will reply by the real color description of the LEGO brick based on the information provided in the chip (e.g. yellow, light green, dark blue...). Much more information can be stored in the database about each brick, not just the colors. However for the blind / visually impaired people this one could make sense the most (as e.g. they can feel the shape of the LEGO brick).
It is an innovative idea on how the LEGO brick and voice technology could be combined in a useful way and all stored in a mobile phone app which listens and talk.
If building based on instructions, facial recognition software of the mobile phone can be activating once saying "final check", Then the blind / visually impaired person could check before the front camera of the phone, whether his / her final creation matches the instructions for the particular LEGO set (stored in the same mobile phone app and preselected before starting building).
