The microphone brick | A LEGO BOOST add on
The concept of my idea is a type of expansion to the LEGO BOOST system. Rather than hooking up a controller or anything along those lines, you can use the microphone brick, a Bluetooth controller replacement (see picture two). The microphone brick would use similar technology to that of smart phone assistances, as you’d be able to program certain phrases to cause certain events.
For example, you could build a machine that dispenses candy with LEGO BOOST elements. Once you’ve created the code for the machine, you can select a part of the code to activate via the microphone brick. Once you’ve chosen that, you will say your phrase into the mike a few times and in a few different ways, so the program can properly grasp the words and voice. Once the process is completed, you can load the code onto the hub & microphone brick so when turned on the software will be automatically available to use.
Alongside the microphone brick, I’ve come up with some other accessories to use alongside with the BOOST system. Said accessories are the led brick and the speaker brick.
The led brick (see picture 3) is a brick with an led light inside of it. It has a wire to attach to LEGO BOOST hubs, and also a port to attach more led bricks and create a chain of them. The thing is though, what would this provide that you couldn’t get from a third party lighting kit? The led kit would be able to dim itself and change its hue/colour. Combine this with the programming abilities of LEGO BOOST and the microphone brick, imagine the possibilities.
Finally, there’s the speaker brick (see picture four). The speaker brick would be on the opposite side to the microphone brick, as the audio is coming from the brick, and not you. With this, you’d be able to play audio either recorded by yourself or use audio from your smart device in the form of music that you’ve had downloaded or a sample of sound effects that would be provided.
So thank you for hearing me out on this (get it? A little sound joke).
