The Aurora Ring Space Station
The Aurora ring space station is five 2-person Individual Living
Units (ILUs) that form a ring around rocket for propulsion from moon base to Mars.
The rocket detaches & ring unfolds to form flat on-planet station. ILUs are
connected by enclosed walkway with additional roof sections that fold out of the
way in ring configuration, & fold into place when ring unfolds into flat
station. Control room functions as cockpit to maneuver ring via rocket
propulsion, & controls life support systems in both configurations.
Each ILU has: 2 bunks (slanted walls adjust inward in ring, outward
for more space when flat); recreational area with TV, bookshelf, seating,
fold-down table, & storage; lavatory with fold-up toilet in shower area; hydroponics
bay with control panel and growlights, for fresh produce & air oxygenation;
galley with cook range, food rehydrator, cold food storage, & external water
filtration/reuse system; science lab with microscope, sample jars, &
computer stations; & solar array.
