MTM-CDV 42
The Moon to Mars - Crew Delivery Vehicle, Mark 42 (MTM-CDV 42)
The MTM-CDV 42 is designed to carry a crew of 6
astronauts to and from Mars, and is comprised of three main components.
- The rear of the ship is largely dedicated to propulsion,
and houses the 3 VASIMAR engines, the prototype micro-nuclear reactor and the ships
communications centre, as well as 8 solar arrays which provide electrical power to the
non-propulsion systems.
- The ships central section houses the crew’s habitat ring,
research centre and supply storage and serves as the
connection point for the ships 10 external supply drop ships to be deployed in support of the ground
crew throughout their stay on the Martian surface.
- Near the nose of the
ship, are the 8 sensor modules ready to be deployed in orbit to create a
network of satellites for communication, terrain mapping and weather
monitoring.
- At the front is the lander, serving double duty as the crew transfer
vehicle from the ship to surface and habitat/lab.
