Great-grandpa’s 1910 “Meteor”
The
earliest mass-produced automobiles (ca.1910) were very different form today’s refined
and sophisticated machines. They were simple and coarse, their construction
guided by the principle of function over design. Their wooden bodyworks
resembled those of horse-drawn carriages in more ways than one.
The
“Meteor” was built in the American tradition of the 1910s, in an effort to
recreate the simplicity of those early-age automobiles. Thus, it comes as no
surprise that it features mostly traditional, stacked construction, except for
the angular fenders (typical of that time period) and the opening doors,
intended to bring a little bit of realism into the model.
I hope you all enjoy having a look at this old
timer, as much as I did building it.
