Flora and Fauna : Hanging Tropical Pitcher Plant

The build consists of a tropical pitcher plant growing into a hexagonal hanging planter. A small brick built frog has made his home inside one of the pitchers. From the tip of the brick built hook to the bottom of the lowest pitcher is about 18 inches or 50 stacked bricks high. The width of the build including the pitchers is about 10 x 8 inches. The diameter of the hexagonal planter is about 4.5 inches.

These pitcher plants or otherwise known as nepenthes are a type of carnivorous plant that grow around the Malay Archipelago in Southeast Asia, but some species even grow in Madagascar and on the Northern tip of Australia. Their pitchers are an extension of their leaves in which digestive enzymes are produced. Certain species of frogs have evolved to use nepenthes pitchers as a sort of home for their eggs and tadpoles.

They aren't the easiest plant to care for because of some very specific requirements, so a brick built version would surely be appreciated by plant lovers all over.
