Castle Two-by-Two
When I think castle, I immediately think of set 375 ‘Castle’ from 1978. Its legendary status shows no sign of fading and for me personally the unconventional yellow colour is the reason it retains the crown.
As indicated by the MOC name I have tried to capture the essence of 375 in a single upturned 2x2 brick (the original set had 12 yellow 2x2 bricks).
Containing a meagre 38 parts, it is fully connected and stable. First built IRL from rainbow elements, I chose to do renders to get some different colours, textures, and macro photography.
I have included two small, printed elements: the castle flag (1x1 tile) and the entrance gateway (one side of the 2x2 brick). These were created in Illustrator and then PartDesigner, before importing into BrickLink Studio.
Lastly, I added the moat as part of the verdant landscaping and to give the drawbridge a little more meaning.
The original set was designed by Daniel August Krentz, their work continues to inspire me and others 44 years later.
