Moss Piglet
This exhibit highlights the loveable moss piglet, otherwise known as the tardigrade or water bear!
Despite this rather enlarged display of our famed moss piglet, our friend here is actually quite minuscule in size! These microscopic creatures belong to the phylum tardigrada and are found in diverse habitats worldwide, ranging from the depths of the ocean to the peaks of mountains and even in Antarctica.
They are renowned for their incredible resilience to extreme conditions that would be fatal to most other organisms. Tardigrades can withstand extreme temperatures ranging from near absolute zero to well over 300 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as intense pressures, radiation, and even the vacuum of outer space.
Our little moss piglet serves as a testament to the ingenuity of life and will continue to fascinate researchers and enthusiasts alike with its incredible abilities for ages to come!
