LEG GODT: The Beginning of LEGO

LEGO. In Danish, the word is "Leg Godt," which means "play well." LEGO was first devised by Ole Kirk Christiansen, a carpenter struggling to make a living in hard times. One day, he decided to start a business of making wooden toys, an idea that would slowly-but surely!-become a popular brand called "LEGO," the precursor to the plastic bricks and building kits we all know and love. In this upcoming exhibit, Ole can be seen putting the finishing touches to one of his wooden ducks in his carpenter's shop. His son, Godtfred, can be seen using a milling machine to help his father produce quality toys. After all, "Only the best is good enough!" Already, their shelves are stocked with cars, trucks, trains, dogs, elephants, and more! Visitors to this exhibit will be able to look back at the origins of their favorite plastic toys and admire Ole and his family for all the hard work they did to start a company that would win all our hearts!
