A History of Time Exhibition
Welcome to the History of Time exhibition. Showing how we have told time through the ages. It starts with the early use of sun dial first used in Egypt 3500BC and the hour glass 300AD, invented in Europe, was one of the few reliable methods of measuring time at sea. Mechanical clocks first appeared in 1360. The first pocket watch was invented in 1510. Moving though to the invention of pendulum clocks in 1656 such as the wooden grandfather clock and majestic cuckoo clock in 1738. Leather wrist watch and traditional alarm clocks soon replaced these in the 1800s. Finally moving into the digital era with the digital alarm clock in 1956 and digital wrist watch in 1972 ending with the use of mobile phones in 1992 which is sadly now how most people tell time.
