Making Waves Through the Ages

My tribute to the legendary Fender Stratocaster, in Lego bricks.

It was challenging to think of a way to represent such an iconic electric guitar without simply modelling the instrument. So, rather than building the body of the Stratocaster I built around it to create a negative space - like a frame around a window. I also wanted to somehow convey it's signature electric sound. To that end, I decided to use the concept of cascading waves to symbolise the flowing power of the Stratocaster. I like to imagine the waves as being within the guitar itself; a world of fluid sound, able to flow as gentle as a stream or crash like a stormy sea.

I started this model by using the pickguard as my reference point. The pickups and bridge were particularly difficult to craft. For the waves I found it best to simply let the tiles form a pile and take advantage of the multiple layers to outline the swirls of the waves.

This project was good fun and I discovered some great music along the way!
