Rubik’s Cube: A Fully Functioning Model

In 1974, Ernő Rubik created the prototype for the now iconic Rubik’s Cube.

For over 50 years, the timeless Rubik’s Cube has challenged generations to solve its conundrum of colours. And so, being a fan of LEGO and Rubik’s Cube, I decided to try a new challenge, and figure out how to build a fully functioning Rubik’s Cube from LEGO bricks.

Using 2,216-pieces, the resultant LEGO Rubik’s Cube consists of eight corner blocks, twelve sides, and one centre piece, around which slot the sides and corners to form a Rubik’s Cube that can be muddled and solved (with perseverance, or by swapping the pieces), just like a real Rubik’s Cube! What’s more, you can even use your own LEGO pieces to customise each face of the Cube.

Additionally included is a 357-piece base, into which the LEGO Rubik’s Cube can be placed and displayed. Also, Ernő Rubik appears in Minifigure form, holding a Rubik’s Cube accessory (Minecraft head, on which stickers or printing would provide detail).
