Vintage Transportation: Steam Tractor
Before the invention of piston engines, gigantic steam tractors were common in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The model is a fictional machine that features twin traction axles linked with a 'Walschaerts Valve Gear', a transmission system mostly used on steam locomotives. The fully-detailed model has many functionalities which can be admired since the tractor is mounted on a test bench that acts as a static display: turning front axle activated by steering wheel, spinning traction wheels (driven by 2 motors powered by a battery box hidden under the cabin floor), working connecting rod linked to the pistons, adjustable expansion link and its respective piston valve, openable firebox (illuminated by a light brick). A section of the boiler is also transparent to offer a view to the superheater tubes.
The reproduction is 50cm long (62 studs), 25.5cm wide (32 studs), and 27cm high (28 bricks).
