Vintage Transportation: Sedan Chair
A sedan chair was a cabin equipped with stretchers and carried by men, used to move individually, it offers a seat that allows you to travel in a seated position. The sedan chair was common in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries, it was considered to be the most suitable means of transport for short journeys in town, it made it possible to protect the passenger not only from the weather, but also from the waste which litter the streets like mud.
The use of sedan chairs disappeared in France with the revolution.
