Capybara Yuzu Bath
Japan is home to many natural hot springs (onsen) where people can bathe throughout the cold winter. On Toji, the winter solstice, it is tradition to add yuzu to the water. This releases the citrus oils into the steam, creating a therapeutic experience thought to prevent colds and bring good fortune in the new year. The Izu Shaboten Zoo started providing these baths to their capybaras, and it has now become a beloved part of Japanese culture.
This peaceful capybara is enjoying a hot yuzu bath in the middle of a chilly winter day.
