Remembrance
The Idea of this creation came from trying to make a diorama that incorporated unique design elements from Japanese culture. I decided to settle with three main elements: a bridge, cemetery, and garden, as in Japan, these often take slightly different and unique forms compared to the rest of the world.
Once I selected these elements, I wanted the project to tell a story, and thought that the combination of a cemetery and garden could tell a sombre story, which I chose to show through a family grieving the loss of a loved one.
There are some small details that you may notice throughout the diorama. Some like the animals dotted around, try to give the creation a more dynamic feeling, while other details like the incense next to two of the graves portray some of the traditions in Japanese culture.
All the plants and animals seen in the diorama are based on real life flora and fauna that exist on the islands of Japan, including, cherry salmon, a stream toad, azalea bushes, koi, and more.
