Deaf Identity

Every person is unique.Everyone is special in their own way.Next month it is Deaf Awareness Week from 5th-11th May and the theme this year is ‘"Beyond Silence"’.I am deaf myself,consequently I wanted to share what it is like being deaf and what it is like being part of a deaf community through my build.I also wanted to raise awareness of this important week and the disability.Despite barriers deaf people,including me,face,I wanted to showcase extraordinary components that make us unique.

In my build I wanted to show the diversity and interconnectedness in the deaf community through the range of colours.Moreover,the stars represent hope for the future.Furthermore,my build is 3D.This showcases how us deaf people positively stand out from the crowd,and helps emphasise the word ‘PRIDE’.Meanwhile, the sparkling flat tiles represent the beauty of every deaf person.Finally the gold represents success.Consequently,I would like to highlight that disability should not be a barrier to success.
