Building Something New
Nora is outside with her best friends
Deciding what to do until the day ends.
“Let’s race!” Betsy requests.
“Or dig up worms,” Rowan suggests.
“Or,” Nora says, “Something we can do
is take things apart, and build them anew!”
“After all,” she says, “All things we see
are Lego bricks! Every house, car, and tree!”
With that, they deconstruct Nora’s jet
Trying to build it into a baguette.
“Forget it,” they say, after a few tries,
“It tastes bad, and it’s the wrong size!”
With another idea, Nora takes a window pane.
“Hey,” she says, “Let’s make my house an airplane!”
But as she speaks, her dad looks down
From the roof, where he sits, with a frown,
“Whoa,” he exclaims, seeing what Nora holds.
“Don’t break the house,” he scolds.
As Nora’s dad tries to snap the pane back in place
Wondering if he needs to get his tool case,
He explains, “It’s fun to build.
But first, judge if it’s for good or ill.”
“I will,” Nora vows, and her friends agree,
Before heading off to take apart a tree.
