Reach for the Stars

FLL encourages students to "reach for the stars" with their teammates. FLL promotes learning together and always "reaching" for more innovation, coopertition, and excellence. Next year's theme would make it a perfect debut year for this original and elegant shooting-star design. In keeping with FLL trophy tradition, I used mostly yellow LEGO elements. I included large color representations of Core Values, Robot, and Project logos since these 3 areas are the heart of FLL and what makes this competition unique. The trophy is ~32cm tall with a 13x24 stud base, leaving space for the metal plate on the base's top. I designed the trophy in LDD, but I built partial prototypes to verify that the star design would hold its shape durably and that the gears would mesh and turn. This trophy should easily adjust in size for various award levels through changing the height and/or slope of the star's base. The 5-point Technic star itself could also be made larger/smaller by differing beam length.
