Locomotion No.1 - The First Passenger Train

STEM subjects go hand in hand with innovation, which is why Locomotion No.1 seemed perfect to celebrate this theme. Locomotion was an early steam engine built in 1825 and was the first train to use coupling rods to connect the driving wheels, laying the groundwork for countless advancements in locomotive development. It was also the first to carry passengers on a public railway in the car named 'Experiment'.

The train stood out to me as a good fit since it is a historical display piece you can have in your home (unlike the real one, which is in a museum), and offers something new to a long line of Lego trains, due to its small form factor and iconic centre-flue boiler and chimney design.

The model consists of the engine, tender wagon, ‘Experiment’ car and a display base reflecting the rural setting where Locomotion operated, featuring wildlife, plants, a fallen tree and a water tower. The model contains exactly 1000 pieces including 5 minifigures, and fits standard Lego track.
