Subphylum Crustacea

As a lover of all things science, I chose to build a set themed after my favorite scientific field, marine biology. This set is a representation of but a few members of the subphylum crustacea, the decorator crab, the snapping shrimp, and the hermit crab. Aside from being crustaceans, they all have another thing in common, their great defense mechanisms. The decorator crab sticks debris such as coral, algae, and even urchins all over its body for camouflage. The snapping shrimp opens its special, large pincher arm, creates a bubble, and then pops it, creating an extremely loud sound that can knock out small animals. Finally, the hermit crab, which isn't a crab at all, takes the shells of other organisms as its own for a protective portable home.

This set is made of exactly 995 LEGO elements and would make for a beautiful display piece for anyone fascinated by these creatures' complex design.
