The Finger-Counting Marionettes
What if the numbers were characters ?
I wanted to celebrate the wonder of finger-counting.
For me, beautiful mathematics are not only those practiced by incredible researchers but also those we use in our day by day.
Finger-counting is often trivialized beside mental-counting or write-counting, but most people started to figure out math thanks to it.
Handsome things can happen when we manipulate numbers through our hands. We start visualizing math as stories, where numbers meet, collaborate with each other and even have their own personalities ! It's a way of making math more understandable.
So I asked my friends and classmates how the numbers look in their heads and created characters ! We have the strong but small 1 that protects other numbers from the 0, the sweet and collaborative 2, the nervous 3, the rational 4 and the smiling 5, that loves to give help !
Each ring marionette has a profile shape inspired by the number's forms :)
The set is composed of 115 bricks.
