The Experiential STEM Park

The purpose behind STEM and STEAM is the application of all four (or five) subject areas in a practical setting. The park provides an unique opportunity to apply these subject areas through physical activity. The see saw demonstrates the application of levers. It uses cam gears to generate the force. The user can change the position of the riders as well as the points of force application. The roller skating ring provides an opportunity for dynamic balance while the color pattern game provides an opportunity for static balance. The girl in the middle of the roller skating ring is analyzing the performance of the skater using a videocamera and computer. The rotation for the skating ring uses a turntable. The color pattern game requires the user to spin the dial and then touch all spots of the color selected by the spin. The last station is the turning bar which is built over sand for safety, The mini figure can assume different positions (straight, bent, tuck) and rotate around the bar.
