Space Technology Spin-Offs
As a Teacher I am passionate about STEM and creativity, so I have designed a series of 4 mechanical LEGO Automata that celebrate some of the "spin-offs" that have come from Space Technology. The development of Space Technology covers all the areas found in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Often this new technology and amazing new inventions will find its way into products that we now use every day!
- Impact absorbing foam in Space Helmets is now used in everyday sports and Skateboard Helmets.
- Moon rock portable hammer drill battery’s, lead to the first handheld Dust Buster vacuum cleaners.
- Aerodynamic Dimples on the Space Shuttle Fuel Tanks, lead to the development of the dimples on golf balls!
- The Lunar Rover control mechanism, lead to the digital joystick technology found in Games controllers.
Thanks for taking the time to read about my submission, Please check out my Instagram for more pictures and video clips of the mechanisms in action.
