Tribute to James Watt
A tribute to James Watt, the Scottish inventor and mechanical engineer who improved Thomas Newcomen’s steam engine to a level where it kicked off the industrial revolution.
In this Lego set he is pictured with one of his his original steam pumps - used to keep mines dry - showing some of the improvements he made: the bi-directional cylinder with separate condenser, the conversion of linear- to rotational- motion via the flywheel and the centrifugal governor to keep the engine from ‘running away’.
James Watt was also the inventor of the ‘horsepower’ unit for power for which the SI unit (watt) was named after him. would it not be nice to now also honour him with this Lego set!
