Self-Sustaining Bridge

What is a "Self-Sustaining Bridge"?
You can't build a bridge with just loose parts? Wrong!
This bridge is an ingenious design, which uses engineering principles in such a smart way that it can freely stand, with its stability resulting from the parts pressing on each other without any connectors.

This is a perfect subject to learn about fundamental STEM principles:
  • Physics: The basics of designing something that is supposed to hold as much weight as possible are obviously a fundamental understanding of gravity, but also of forces acting on the bridge beams.
  • Engineering: The genius of this design is the clever use of forces canceling each other out, so that more force acting on it even increases the stability. These design principles are used just like in real structural engineering.

Overall, this is a really fun set to puzzle together, but the real value lies in the wide variety of engineering principles you learn on the way.
